Located in the southwestern region of Connecticut within southern Fairfield County, the city of Norwalk rests on the northern coast of Long Island Sound. As a part of both the New York and Bridgeport metropolitan areas, Norwalk boasts a rich history dating back to its initial settlement in 1649. With a population of 91,184 according to the 2020 United States Census, it ranks as the sixth most populous city in Connecticut.
Its topography is characterized by a striking coastline that stretches along Long Island Sound, flanked by the Norwalk River on either bank, and the Norwalk Islands. The highest elevation within the city is 315 feet (96 m) above sea level, located on the fairway of the 16th hole of the Silvermine Golf Course. Conversely, the lowest point is sea level, where land meets the shores of Long Island Sound.
