Louisville, located within the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is a city of distinction. It is the most populous city in the state and ranks sixth among the most populous cities in the Southeastern United States. Moreover, it is the 28th most populous city in the entire country. Since 2003, Louisville has served as the historical and nominal seat of Jefferson County, situated on the Indiana border.

Louisville owes its name to King Louis XVI of France and was established in 1778 by George Rogers Clark. As one of the oldest cities west of the Appalachians, Louisville prospered as a portage site due to the nearby Falls of Ohio, which served as the sole major obstruction to river traffic between the upper Ohio River and the Gulf of Mexico.The city is renowned as the birthplace of several notable achievements and personalities, including the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, the acclaimed Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Fried Chicken, the University of Louisville, and its Cardinals, and the Louisville Slugger baseball bats.
